Generative AI
What is Generative AI? And how can it be used?

Generative AI is “ large AI models, called foundation models, that are trained on large sets of data to learn patterns. It then uses these patterns to predict what word, sound, or pixel would come next in a sequence.” (Google Gemini).
I have been apprehensive about using AI. I have always thought that it monitored or tracked what you asked and used your conversations in order to grow its database. For our FOED 6320 class, we had an assignment that allowed us to explore generative AI and how it can be used in the classroom. After this lesson, I have begun to consider using AI more. This assignment helped me realize that it is programmed with a data-base. That is why some information provided by it can be inaccurate because it is now outdated or has changed since being entered into the AI database.
AI is an impressive tool that could be utilized in the classroom. It can be helpful for teachers to use in the classrooms, as well as for their students. Educators can use AI for researching classroom practices, finding lesson plans, designing a new and creative feature for a lesson, or even asking for lesson ideas. Students can also use it for research projects, designing creative details for assignments, and asking AI for homework assistance.
While AI can be a beneficial tool, we still need to be cautious of how it is being used in the classroom. We want to be sure that students are competent and mastering skills and not just having the software do their work for them. AI can be a helpful tool, but we need to ensure that it is being used in appropriate ways. After this assignment, I am more willing to use AI in my classroom now but am still reserved about allowing my students to use the software.
