TPACK
What is TPCAK? Technological Pedagogical And Content Knowledge is a framework that teachers use for effective integration of technology into the classroom. During my research on this topic, I learned that technology classroom tools can be inappropriate in some situations if not utilized properly. TPACK is a useful classroom tool that allows teachers to examine the technology and content they are using. It allows them to see that technology is not appropriate for all students, content lessons, or even in a specific classroom.
Technology can support or sabotage an assignment. It must be used in a proper manner to support a lesson. If not, students will be distracted and lose their focus. Then the teacher has lost control of the lesson and will not be able to instruct the students on how it was intended. When used correctly technology can help create a more engaging classroom. It helps to reach different learning styles of students, allow collaboration, help prepare students for the future endeavors, and help make connections with the students.
Content is already being taught with the pedagogy of the classroom. Why not include technology in the approach and go beyond the basics of education? The TPACK website states, “The TPACK framework goes further by emphasizing the kinds of knowledge that lie at the intersections between three primary forms: Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), Technological Content Knowledge (TCK), Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK), and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK).”(Koehler, M., 2024). The combination of these three primary forms comprise TPACK.
As a future educator that wants to include as many forms of instruction as possible in my classroom, I plan to utilize this framework. While it is not appropriate to use TPACK with every lesson, my goal should be to still incorporate the idea and include it when possible. During weeks 3-5, I enjoyed applying the TPACK framework to lessons. My goal is to continue to do this in future lessons.
